Community Service
The Lexington Model Airplane Club has a 50 year history of community involvement in Lexington area especially with educating our next generation of citizens. We are a non-profit organization with an 80 acre Model Airplane Park provided by the City of Lexington ( LFUCG ).
One of our objectives to be active, contributing members of our community. In addition, our Club conducts fund raisers each year for Cardinal Hill Rehab Hospital and other organizations.
List of community service activities recently completed by the Lexington Model Airplane Club:
-- Shriners Children's Hospital, Lexington, KY ( July 17, 2014) - Hosted an outing for recovering children at the airfield for some fun watching model RC airplanes flying and interacting with RC pilots.
-- Bryan Station High School (Feb thru May 7, 2014) - 2014 Wing Design Competition - 14 week program & 250 hrs of LMAC involvement in the BSHS Aviation Technology Class. LMAC members conducted lectures on Aerodynamics, Wing design, Design Report writing, hands-on wing building activity and competition flying of RC aircraft.
-- Thomson-Hood Veteran Care Center, Wilmore, KY (Aug 10, 2013) - Display of WWII model airplanes to residents.
-- Morning Pointe of Lexington Assisted Living (May 8, 2013) - Presentation of WWII model airplanes to residents

-- Cardinal Hill Rehab Hospital - (April 21, 2013) Donation to the Cardinal Hill Hospital during Channel 27 TV telethon. Cardinal Hill patients enjoy periodic visits to airfield.

-- St Peter & St Paul School ( 2012) - "Inventing Flight Program" - 2 day program -- Class presentations to 6 middle school classes and Gym RC flying activity
-- VA Medical Center (July 4, 2012) 4th of July Celebration - Model Airplane Static Display and Flying Demonstration in the Courtyard for the veterans residing at the medical center. VA Medical Center residents enjoy periodic visits to airfield.
-- Sayer Middle School - (2011) "How Airplanes Fly" - 2 hr program -- Class presentation and Gym RC flying demonstration.
